They say opposites attract. I never believed that until I met Abby.
I was an Ivy League student, the eldest son of an affluent family, living a life of luxury and rubbing elbows with D.C.’s elite. Sounds great, right? Too bad prestige comes with a price.
When the expectations became too much, I decided to escape to the hills of West Virginia with my best friend for a summer of fun, some R & R and a little white water rafting. I wanted to lose myself in the outdoors, but instead found Abby. A petite waitress and all around spitfire, she knocked me off my game, making me want more than the casual, no strings attached relationships I was used to.
To me, she’s not just another summer fling. She’s something that could last.

I grit my teeth. I don’t want to talk to Luke about this. He’s never once cared about a girl. Admittedly, I’ve never felt anything like what I feel for Abby, but I’m not a detached and unapologetic man-whore like he is, either.
“Forget it. You wouldn’t understand.” Seriously, I’m not talking to him about my feelings. No fucking way.
“Try me,” he challenges, all hint of teasing gone. The sincere look in his eyes stuns me and I cave.
“It’s just-” I start, but don’t really know what to say. “I care about her,” I finally admit. “She’s not just some hook-up. I want to keep seeing her. Even after we go back home.” Luke nods as though he understands. For some reason, it makes me want to keep going. “I have something real with her. Something that could last. And I want it. I want her. I don’t want anyone else to ever touch her again. To love her. Just me.”

Jacob is from a wealthy family and goes to an Ivy League college but he needs a break at some point from all the chaos that comes with being a Senator’s son. He decides to take 2 weeks off during the Summer to a small town with his best friend Luke.
Abby is just a small town girl that’s struggling to put herself through college by working two jobs during the Summer and she’s also helping her grandmother which she’s lived with for years. Losing a father at 10 and a mother to drugs, all she has left is her grandmother.
When Jacob goes on a zip line excursion he sees Abby which works there. It is an instant attraction. Soon these two realize they are from two totally different worlds and Abby is hesitant and thinks she’s not good enough for this Ivy League guy. Jacob on the other hand is enamored with this strong girl with such a big heart.
Something That Could Last is a sweet and steamy read. This is my first read by Ashley Cade and definitely not my last. I loved Jacob and Abby although they come from two separate worlds they both have strong characters. I fell fast and hard for these two and although it ends on a cliffhanger, which I usually hate, it leaves me wanting more! I’m looking forward to devouring the second in this series!!
